Fiber Optic Sensing Association Elects Board Members
WASHINGTON DC - December 10, 2018 - The Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA), the nation’s premier trade association dedicated to fiber optic sensing, announced the election of five board members, as well as its officer slate for 2019, at the organization’s Annual Meeting in Washington DC.
Joseph Herridge, Corning, and Dave Cunningham, Network Integrity Systems, were elected to the Board. Mike Hines, OFS, Kent Wardley, Fotech Solutions, and JJ Williams, OptaSense, were reelected to serve 2-year terms. On the officer slate, JJ Williams rose from Vice Chair to Chair, replacing outgoing Chair Mike Hines. In 2019, Hines will serve as Vice Chair, Baird as Secretary, and Herridge as Treasurer.
“We are fortunate to have a Board with such breadth and experience,” said FOSA Director Mark Uncapher. “The knowledge that these industry veterans bring to task will serve the fiber optic sensing sector extremely well.”
“In our second year of operation,” noted outgoing Chairman Mike Hines, “FOSA added significantly to our working groups, rolled out numerous educational tools, generated ten new webinars, and made real progress with respect to policy around the use of Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing for improved safety in the rail and pipeline sectors. FOSA continues to press ahead by providing real value for its members and the public at large. We look forward to even greater progress in the future.”
Incoming Chairman JJ Williams credited much of the cooperative nature of FOSA to the efforts of 2018 Chairman Hines.
“Mike has great vision and energy,” Williams said. “Much of our progress in 2018 is due in no small part to the contagious spirit of collaboration he brings to his work. FOSA has flourished under Mike’s Chairmanship, and we look forward to building on that foundation in 2019.”
Since its founding in April 2017, in Washington DC, FOSA hosted scores of webinars, videos and technical papers, provided a map of distributed fiber optic sensing installations around the globe, and educated over 100 government officials and staff on the technology’s benefits.
