Fiber Optic Sensing Association Anticipates a Busy 2020 with Election of New Board Members

WASHINGTON DC - December 9, 2019 - The Fiber Optic Sensing Association (FOSA), the nation’s premier trade association dedicated to fiber optic sensing, announced the election of five board members, as well as its officer slate for 2020.

Paul Baird, Prysmian; Deep Desai, Frauscher Sensonic; Paul Dickinson, Dura-Line; Steve Koles, Hi-fi Engineering were each elected to two-year terms beginning on January 1, 2020. Mark Bradley of Corning was elected to a one-year term, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of another board member from Corning.

Mike Hines of OFS was elected by the Board to rise from Vice Chairman to Chairman, replacing outgoing Chairman J.J. Williams of OptaSense. Kent Wardley of Fotech was elected Vice Chairman, Mark Bradley of Corning was elected Treasurer. Paul Baird of Prysmian was re-elected as Secretary. All four will serve as officers during calendar year 2020.

“We are fortunate to have a Board with such breadth and experience,” said FOSA Executive Director Mark Uncapher. “The knowledge that these industry veterans bring to task will serve the fiber optic sensing sector extremely well.”

“Under J.J. Williams’ Chairmanship,” noted returning Chairman Mike Hines, “FOSA added significantly to our working groups and increased the availability of industry technical resources. This year’s annual meeting in Washington featured 27 different meetings with Capitol Hill policy makers that included 34 FOSA members and their representatives.”

Outgoing Chairman J.J. Williams credited much of the cooperative nature of FOSA to the efforts of incoming Chairman Mike Hines. “Mike has great vision and energy,” Williams said. “We look forward to even greater progress in the future. FOSA flourished under Mike’s previous Chairmanship in 2018, and we look forward to building on that foundation in 2020. Much of our progress is due in no small part to the contagious spirit of collaboration he brings to his work.”

FOSA is a non-profit organization created in Washington DC in 2017 with the mission of educating industry, government and the public on the benefits of fiber optic sensing. Through webinars, videos, white papers, public presentations and public policy advocacy, the organization provides information on the use of fiber optic sensing to secure critical facilities, enhance public safety and protect the environment.

FOSA Members include AP Sensing, Aselsan, Asymmetric Technologies, Corning, Ditch Witch, Dura-Line, Fotech Solutions, Frauscher Sensonic GmbH AT, Graz University of Technology, Hifi Engineering, NEC, Network Integrity Systems, NKT Photonics, OFS, Omnisens, OptaSense, OZ Optics, Prysmian Group, Schlumberger, Skyview Construction, Smartpipe Technologies and the University of California - Berkeley.  For further information, please visit the FOSA website.
