FOSA Contributes to Smart Cities Council

Fiber optic sensing included in “A Resilient Technology Roadmap for Rebuilding Texas.” FOSA contributed to an effort led by the Smart Cities Council to assist communities affected by Hurricane Harvey in thinking through how to rebuild in a resilient fashion. FOSA provided information for Smart Cities Council workshops in affected Texas communities in December 2018. Specifically, as to Energy and Telecommunications resilience, the Roadmap advises communities:

  • Leverage fiber optic infrastructure and sensing technology, pipeline sensors,
  • individual household gas metering, CCTV p.12
  • Consider fiber optic sensing technology to continuously monitor structural integrity, water flow, vehicle movement, human traffic, digging activity, seismic activity, temperatures, liquid and gas leaks, and many other conditions and activities p.14
