OptaSense recently partnered with FIMA, a leading intelligent infrastructure solutions company in the Baltic Sea region, to provide border surveillance along the Lithuania - Belarus border. The project was the installation of a border surveillance system at the Lavoriškės frontier station; a post which controls 22km of the border with Belarus. The area covered by the frontier station had been controlled by seismic sensors mounted at the border. Based on the success of fiber-optic sensing used elsewhere, FIMA replaced these sensors with the OptaSense distributed fiber-optic system and video surveillance cameras. With the OptaSense system, once an incident has been detected, information is automatically transmitted to the surveillance center at the frontier station and cameras mounted along the border can be show the precise location of the incident onscreen.
